3 easy style tips for fall

By on September 14th, 2014

As much as you may love that bro tank and pair of cargo shorts it’s time to (carefully) put them away for the season and start thinking about how you’re going to amp up your style this fall. Here are some simple and practical style tips for fall that you can adopt right now.

Fortunately, it’s easier than you think. The BE braintrust got together and compiled this short list of (3) practical style tips for fall that you can put into action right now.

1. Layer

Fall in Colorado can be a little confusing. Snow in the morning and sunshine in the afternoon anyone?

Beat the weather with some smart layering. Dress warm as you begin your day and shed layers as the mercury rises.

Fortunately, being a pro at layering is easy. Just start with finer fabrics close to your body and work your way out. For instance, begin with your favorite dress shirt and then throw on a fine merino wool sweater and finish with a tweed or corduroy sportcoat – something with some texture. Or, in place of the jacket go with a cable knit sweater.

Here are two examples on layering – one traditional and one less so…

2. Buy a cardigan

Get yourself a nice cardigan. It’s about time you had one.

And I’m not talking your grandpa’s cardigan – things have certainly changed in recent years. Now we see lots of guys from all walks of life sporting that comfortable and yet almost regal pseudo-sweater that we call the men’s cardigan.

Today’s versions are usually going to be a fine merino wool. Just be sure you stick with either one of the monochromatic varieties or if you do opt for a pattern, keep it simple (for you engineers out there it may be helpful to remember the K.I.S.S principle – keep it simple, stupid). You can’t go wrong with a dark black cardigan in fine wool. You can layer it over any dress shirt and it can add a layer of formality to a sportcoat or instantly dress you up for a night out.

3. Pair boots with dark jeans

Everyone needs one nice pair of jeans. The type of jeans that you can wear out for a night on the town. And they need to be dark blue.

Light blue jeans are the ones you wear during the day. Dark blue is for every other time.

And in the fall you can do something fun and pair your dark jeans with some great looking boots. It’s cold outside, but not yet really cold so protect those feet with something more robust than your slip-ons. You’ll keep your feet dry while stomping through those ubiquitous downtown puddles and look good doing so.
